Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Debenhams.
Retail Assistant
The interview was fine and quick. They went over the specifics of the role and my past experience. They asked why I wanted to work for the company and what skills I could bring to the role.
- How would you handle different situations that may arise?
- What motivates you to seek employment with our company?
- What particular abilities do you possess that would be beneficial for this position?
Retail Assistant
The interview process wasn't too hard. First, I applied and then did an online test to see if I was a good fit. After that, I had to set up a phone interview for another day. It was only 15 minutes, and the person was super nice and understood I was nervous. She asked simple questions about why I want the job and about past experiences with tricky customers. I passed that and got to go for a face-to-face interview with the assistant store manager. It lasted about an hour, and the manager made it feel more like a chat than a formal interview, which was nice. He told me about himself and his job, what the role I applied for involves, and asked about me and my past experience from my CV. Overall, it was a pretty good experience, and I'm waiting to hear back in the next few days.
- Why are you interested in working for Debenhams, and what about this particular role appealed to you?
- Imagine you're working the tills and things get slow towards the end of your shift, what would you do?
- Have you ever worked towards or met specific targets before?
Barista
It was a quick interview process. I had to show my knowledge about food and drinks, plus health and safety rules. I also demonstrated my ability to make different coffees like cappuccinos, lattes, and flat whites, and how I handle customers.
- Do you have a valid HACCP Qualification?
