First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Debenhams.
Customer Service Representative
I filled out an online form and answered some questions. Then, I had a phone call where they asked me a few customer service questions. After that, I met the manager in the store for an in-person evaluation. They took me to the area I'd be working and asked me to approach customers to see how I'd interact. It felt a bit awkward, honestly. It's frustrating that after going through these three steps, I wasn't selected.
- In your own words, what does customer service mean?
- Suppose a customer asks you about a product in a different department while you're busy stocking shelves, how would you handle that?
- If a customer were to ask you about something you weren't sure of, what would you do?
Customer Service Representative
I applied online and then got a phone interview. The company was really good with communication. The phone interview was with a nice person who asked typical customer service questions. After that, there was an in-store event. It was supposed to have 12 people but only 5 showed up. It was scheduled for 5-7 pm but went until 8 pm. We started with an icebreaker where we had to introduce each other. Then we had to go out on the shop floor and approach shoppers to see if they needed help, showing we are friendly and outgoing. I actually made two sales which I think helped me get the job. The advice is to be yourself and be charming. Finally, we had one-on-one interviews. There was a lot of waiting, but the interviews were short, about 10 minutes, and were a continuation of the phone interview. They just wanted to hear about making the customer experience key, making them feel special, and memorable so they return.
- What is considered good customer service?
- What's the most crucial aspect of your job?
Customer Service Associate
I applied on the internet and sent in my cv and reference. I also took an on-line assessment that was pretty much common sense. Then I got an email asking me to call in to talk about my application. They asked a couple of the usual questions.
- What did it mean to be part of the Christmas team?
- What does good Customer Service mean?
- How have you handled a difficult customer in the past?
