First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Dearborn Public Schools.
Graphics Lab Specialist
It was a chill 5-person interview. They gave me a paper with questions so I could get ready. Each person asked me one question and let me take my time answering.
- Can you walk me through your current job's workflow?
Intern
They were inviting and gave tons of info. They wanted to see if you were a good fit, but also if the company was a good fit for you. It was a great experience overall.
- What do you think you will contribute to the program?
Science Teacher
At a job fair, I was advised to add 'willing to pursue ESL endorsement' to my resume to improve my application, which did help me stand out. Dearborn often prefers to hire former students or those with internal connections. I was interviewed at one school where I had to teach a lesson in front of a panel of teachers. Although they chose another candidate, they passed my resume to another principal. This principal then contacted me for an interview. For this interview, I was asked to teach a short lesson to students attending summer school. I needed to prepare materials for a mixed-age group and was provided with a projector and computer, but I had to bring my documents on a flash drive. After the lesson, the principal asked me some follow-up questions.
- How would you handle varying student needs and abilities?
Teacher
Submitted my application online and had a chat with the principal. They then asked me to come in for an interview. After that, I was invited back to do a demo lesson. HR got in touch about a week after that with an offer.
- What strategies do you use to support English language learners in the classroom?
