First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Deakin University.
Lawyer
This was a positive interview experience. The panel was friendly. It was conducted on Zoom, which felt a bit less personal, but overall it was a good experience even though I didn't get the job. I would apply and interview there again because of the good experience.
- What drew you to this position?
Technical Officer
We had an online interview with three people on the panel, and they made it feel really friendly and welcoming. The conversation just flowed, and it felt like a normal chat. Each person on the panel asked two questions. It was pretty relaxed and engaging overall, like a regular conversation.
- Can you share an example of a challenging situation you faced and describe how you handled it?
Ethics and Compliance Specialist
It was a panel interview with three people, about 30 minutes long. Each person asked 2-3 questions. Started with a question about my motivation for the role, then moved to hypothetical "how would you approach" and "give an example when" type questions, and finished with a values-based question. It was online. They got back to me pretty fast, by the end of the week.
- How have you developed, communicated, and implemented a strategic vision?
- Tell me about how you have grown culture within a team to align with the university's values.
- In your opinion, what is the biggest challenge for the portfolio in the next 12 months?
Accountant
I interviewed with a panel of 3 people. Since this is a new graduate position, there are no exact duties defined for this role yet. The questions were mostly behavioural, but not typical ones. They were more focused on future outlook and your work style. A few weeks after the interview, I got a phone call from one of the interviewers who gave me some feedback. Overall, it was a good experience.
- What would you do if you had to implement a new system?
