The entire interview process was conducted over Zoom, and it was a really positive experience. Everyone I spoke with was super friendly and created a comfortable atmosphere. They asked good questions, and it made the place seem like a great environment to work in, with people who are clearly passionate about their jobs. Overall, it was a good experience, and I felt comfortable pretty quickly.

After applying on USAJOBS, I waited about 4-5 months with no response. Then, I suddenly got an email asking about my availability for an interview that same week. The first interview was with three section chiefs, and the questions were standard but pretty laid-back. A couple of weeks later, after they checked my professional references, I had a final interview with the Chief Counsel. This was more informal, with a few structured questions, and it felt pleasant. She mentioned I'd get an offer soon because they needed to hire quickly and would accommodate my post-military schedule. Right after, they asked for proof of income, and I had to explain how my military income includes untaxed housing allowance. Over a month later, I got an email rejection, which felt off since she'd said I was getting an offer. I suspect they wanted to offer a lower salary, but I know my experience and the cost of living in D.C. mean I'm worth more, and I'd already stated my minimum acceptable salary in my application. I won't apply again.

Systems Administrator
The interview process felt pretty straightforward, likely because the hiring team seemed unsure of what they were really seeking. The interviewer didn't appear to have a deep understanding of the role's requirements, making the interview feel quite unstructured. It was more like a casual chat with someone I already knew. I guess this explains why they were so eager to fill the position; it's tough for them to attract good people when word gets out about how poorly they operate.

So, the interview process has two parts, and I just finished the first part today. I should hear back by Friday to see if I move on to the second part. It was a panel of three people, and they were really patient and helpful. They are actually part of the division I would be working in.
