It was pretty informal, with two people interviewing me. The whole thing was online. They started by explaining what they expected from me, then gave me some feedback, and it was all very professional. They took their time to make sure we were all on the same page. It was a bit stressful.

My professor from my first English course at De Anza College suggested I apply to be a Peer English Tutor. The interview process with the tutoring center staff was thorough and helpful. They also have a required tutoring course during the first quarter which prepared me for the job. Senior Tutors who were great at their sessions mentored us new tutors. Both the hiring and interviewing process were quick and swift, and the employees were hired based on performance rather than initial resume judgment.

Behavioral Presentation

The whole interview experience felt really nice and welcoming. They presented me with 28 questions about helping students and different things that happen in academia. I got the question list 15 minutes before our 30-minute chat, and they told me at the start that it was timed. They gave me a heads-up warning with 5 minutes left. If you've worked in academia a lot, you should be good. My interview went great, I was super excited, which made getting that rejection letter even more of a bummer.

The interview process was a half day of interviews, including a presentation and a writing assignment. It was pretty simple stuff that you should know how to demonstrate when applying for a position at an academic institution. Be sure to ask questions and sell your skills and abilities. A good reference doesn't hurt either. Make sure your references are aware that you're using them and tell them the type of position so they can be prepared to sell your skills.
