I applied by emailing my resume and references for a job opening I saw on their website. The interview process was straightforward. I met separately with two research scientists and another laboratory assistant I'd be working with. They gave me a tour of the facility and explained the current projects.

The interview process started with a phone interview that turned into more conversations with HR. The first HR chat was basic behavioral, and then they scheduled in-person interviews, but those calls also turned into full conversations. HR at DDPSC was really helpful. The in-person interview had about 10 people, and I spoke to each one individually for 15 minutes. Only about 3 seemed to know anything about my resume or had questions ready. The others mostly talked about their own jobs or random stuff. They told me it was just a personality test for fit, but I should have tried to steer it back to my experience. About 3 people seemed annoyed to be there and nothing I said seemed to impress them. They were all really focused on the commute, which wasn't an issue for me. One person didn't even show up. Despite all this, everyone, even the annoyed ones, said they wanted to hire me, so it was a shock to hear I was considered both over and under-qualified. HR needs to train the PIs better and not give candidates false hope!

The application process was quite long and time-consuming, and I had to give contact info for 3 professional references. About 4 weeks after I applied, I got a phone call where they asked me some questions and let me know that the pay for the role was only $15 an hour, not the $15-$23 mentioned in the job description. They then invited me for an in-person interview. I gave them my availability, and after a week of no response, I reached out to confirm. They told me they hadn't decided on the applicants yet. Another week passed with no word, so I decided to withdraw my application.
