Went through 4 rounds of interviews, some were in person and others were via Zoom. I met with some future teammates, and then I also met with HR and management for the rest of the interviews. Overall, it wasn't a terrible experience.

I put in my application back in February 2023. About six days after I applied, I got an email to do the next step. I had to use a link they sent to record video answers to 9 questions. Each question had a time limit of about 2 minutes to answer. They gave you a few seconds to prep your answer right before the question popped up. It felt pretty impersonal and cold, this first screening, since I didn't get to actually talk to anyone from DCI.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

It was a long interview process. The initial zoom interview with the managers was concerning because they heavily emphasized how difficult the role is, the severe understaffing, and their expectation to overwork employees. They repeatedly stressed the demanding nature of the job. I mentioned I was relocating from VA to TN. They suggested I observe a process and interview with the director the next day. I drove 11 hours and paid for three nights in a hotel for this. The observation part was as expected, but the director canceled last minute, wasting my time and money. The following week, I had a zoom interview with the director who also spoke negatively about the role, saying they would overwork employees. I questioned if their goal was to hire or deter candidates. Since salary wasn't listed, I inquired and learned about the very low pay for a role where they planned to "work employees to death." The director was impolite and asked about conflict resolution and how I'd react to being treated as "below" another employee, which were alarming questions. I didn't get reimbursed for travel or lodging, and they don't provide relocation assistance.

First, there was a preliminary phone interview with HR to make sure I met the application guidelines. Then, a second phone interview with the managers of the department. After that, an in-person interview with the department managers and one other departmental manager that lasted about 45 minutes. I also shadowed someone in the role for about 2 hours. I was hired later that day!
