Started with submitting my application, then they set up a phone screen. After that, I talked to HR, then the hiring manager. Next step was to complete a Top-grading profile, and there was supposed to be a follow-up meeting, but it didn't happen because someone internal became a candidate.

At Dayton Superior, they use "TopGrading", which is pretty much a deep dive into your past experiences and career history. It involves a lot of self-reflection on your career journey so far. You'll have several initial phone calls with different stakeholders, submit an online application, complete an online career history form, and then go through what's probably one of the most extensive formal interviews you'll encounter.

I was really impressed with how professional everyone was throughout the whole interview and hiring process. I was talking with the director of HR at the corporate office and one of the manufacturing directors. They were flexible and accommodating and even sent a welcome package. It was a really first-class approach. I've interviewed a lot in the last few months and this was the best experience I've had with any company, no question.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • Be ready to complete a career profile, so have your job history prepared and be ready to share some insights.
  • As far as specific questions, there are no 'gotchas' to be concerned about. Expect to be candid about your successes and challenges, because they will likely ask questions around 'what did you learn'.
  • They have good follow-up questions. So be prepared to communicate 'what you learned', how you would handle it differently...etc.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

It took about a month, and I had 2 phone interviews, then a Skype interview, followed by a long online survey. After that, I had a full day of interviews where I met about 10 people and had formal chats with 4 of them. They really like team interviews there. The HR team is super organized and does a great job. The interviewers are sharp and focused, but they were also nice and professional. The HR team really tries to help you out during the whole thing. I think the online and Skype parts make things faster because you don't need as many in-person interviews. It was a smooth and even kinda cheerful process because the HR team was so nice and efficient.
