The hiring process moved fast because they needed someone quickly. I met with a panel of five people, including three administrators and two teachers. We talked about my education background and the school's objectives. They were looking for someone who was receptive to new teaching ideas and committed to developing the school into a STEM institution.

It was a thirty minute interview with a group of teachers and administrators from the same grade level, plus some coaches. They each asked different questions about things like classroom management, assessment, how I teach, organization, and so on.

I had three interviews before I got hired. First, there was a district screening interview, which is pretty standard for big districts. Then, I had two interviews back-to-back with groups of principals, like 7-10 principals in each. Finally, I interviewed at the school with the principal and the grade-level teachers. The screening interview was just me and a principal who's trained to score answers to standard teaching questions. Based on your score, you might get invited back. This interview seemed to be about understanding your grasp of teaching theories and best practices. The second interview was a bit tougher, with me facing about 10 principals. The questions were similar to the first round, about teaching theory and best practices, but with some more specific ones, like if I'd teach at a year-round school. This panel interview wasn't usual, the district was trying it out. The last interview was at the school with the principal and the teachers for that grade level. It was shorter, about 20 minutes, mostly to see if I'd fit in with the team.
