First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Davidson Hospitality Group.
People & Culture Coordinator
So the first interview was a Microsoft Teams call with the Director of Talent Acquisition, basically just to screen me. The week after that, I had another Teams interview, this time with the Senior Corporate Director of HR. Then, they moved me forward to talk to the Senior VP. That chat was about 45 minutes long; she wasn't as warm as the others, but still nice. The following week, they invited me to come to the office in person. The campus is amazing! I met the person currently doing the job, who showed me around and answered my questions. After that, I had to go back to the office again (I was driving about 70 miles each way). This time, I met with the Corporate Director of Total Rewards & Compensation and the Senior Corporate Director of HR again. I thought that was the final round and an offer would be coming, but I left feeling uncertain. The Director of Talent Acquisition kept in touch after every interview, including the last one. He told me they hadn't made a final decision but would let me know soon. A few days later, I got an email late in the evening saying I was a strong contender, but they decided to go with someone who had more experience. I get that's how it works, but going through six or seven rounds for what felt like an event planning role made me wonder if it was the right fit. The team was really kind and welcoming, and they had a strong, family vibe, which I liked. However, the interview process felt too long and overkill for this level of role. Six or seven rounds, including multiple in-person visits, just seemed drawn out for what was basically an event planning job. Even though I didn't get the job, I still felt good about the people I met. That said, they could probably make their hiring process smoother.
- Can you tell me how many times you've been responsible for scheduling team events in your previous positions?
- How familiar and comfortable are you with using Workday?
Business Development Analyst
Recruited via campus, followed by a super day with 7-8 interviews back-to-back at their Atlanta office. The night before, there's a nice dinner, then drinks at a local bar. The next day is packed with interviews, and you fly out right after.
- Which hotel brand do you identify with?
- What are the main risks for a new hotel opening nearby?
- If you could change anything about your hotel stay, what would it be?
Assistant Executive Housekeeper
I reached out to Davidson through a job site and got a call back a few days later. Then I had an initial meeting with the executive housekeeper to check if I was a hard worker and would fit in well with them. A couple days after that, I met with the executive housekeeper, general manager, and some other folks in the manager's office for the final interview. I think I got the job because I dressed professionally (suit), showed I was willing to work long hours (50-60 per week), and could answer all the questions they asked without any issues. Having previous leadership experience was also helpful. The questions weren't anything strange, mostly asking about my weaknesses, why I'm interested in the hotel industry, and my future career goals.
- What are your biggest weaknesses?
Human Resources Director
I had 3 phone interviews with the Recruiter, Regional HRD, and the GM. Then I was invited for an on-Property visit which included 6 individual face-to-face interviews. They said a decision would be made in a week. Two weeks later, I got an email requesting a follow-up and the GM responded. Everyone I met was very nice, honest, and I felt like I made personal connections. But, to find out a previous employee got the job at the last minute and then just getting a standard TBNT letter afterwards shows this company doesn't really care about people or value individuals. As a recruiter myself, a personal phone call after meeting someone is a must, especially after spending 6 hours getting to know them.
- What would be your priorities in the first 30, 60, and 90 days on the job?
