First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at David Lerner Associates.
Investment Counselor
I went to a career seminar at their Westport location where a few people gave a history and overview of the company. There were about 25-30 people there for the same position. After the presentation, we were invited to meet them one on one in a private office. We were told we could leave if we weren't interested. I met with the manager, and he explained some details about the job I'd be considered for. He then asked me to tell him a little bit about myself and a few more questions. We then scheduled another appointment for me to meet with an assistant manager.
- Do you think you are up for the challenge?
Financial Investment Counselor
I found the job on Careerbuilder and applied online. A few days later, I got a call to set up my first interview. It was in the evening, so it didn't mess up my day job. The interview took about 40 minutes and included a presentation from senior management, a Q&A session, and then 15 minutes one-on-one with one of the two presenters. After that first mini-interview, I was asked to come back for a second interview the next morning at the same place. I went back the following day and met with the same person who interviewed me the night before. That lasted about 20-25 minutes. Then I met with the other senior manager (the other presenter), and this interview went for about 1 1/2 hours. (Not sure if that's typical, but mine was that long). Once the interview was done, I was offered the job and had a few days to think about it. I accepted the position the following week.
- How do you go about prospecting, and what's your strategy for it?
Investment Consultant
Emailed my resume for an opening I heard about. Got a call from Larry the hiring manager to come in for an interview. He didn't ask many questions and it was over in about 15 minutes. He said he'd set up a second interview with a higher up. About a week later I got a letter saying they wouldn't be offering me the position. It doesn't make sense why he'd tell me to come in if he didn't like my resume, or say he'd set up a second interview if he didn't think I was a fit. It felt like a waste of my time.

Investment Counselor
We did a group presentation to about 8 people, then I had immediate one on one interviews with the hiring manager, and they gave me an offer on the spot. Then I was sent to 1 week training, had to study for exams, pass exams and then get into production and start selling.
