First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Davenport University.
Digital Marketing Coordinator
I found the interview experience really enjoyable and insightful. The questions they asked were great and really got to the heart of the role. I also liked that they answered all my questions thoroughly, which helped me understand everything better. They were very organized and made sure everything was clear.
- What makes you a strong candidate for this position?
Front Office Assistant
The application process was a bit of a hassle, more so than I've experienced elsewhere. The interview itself was pretty typical, involving the Dean of the campus, the head of Career Services, and some department heads. They asked the usual questions about my qualifications for the job and what I could contribute. Overall, it was a pretty standard experience once I got through the application, which was a bit much with all the personality tests. Yes, tests. It felt like overkill, the same test with slightly different names, over and over.
- What previous experience do you have that makes you a good fit for this position?
Security Services Officer
This took a while, like 4 months, it started with a phone chat and then they had me come in for in person interviews. They are really slow. A bunch of people I didn't know interviewed me, like the security manager and some others from different departments. Most of the questions were not about security stuff, they mostly asked about diversity and common sense scenarios. They also wanted to know if I knew a lot about the university already from checking their website.
- What is your understanding of diversity?
Advisor
Davenport uses a scripted, behavioral interview style. To be honest I think they hire mostly on personality. As in who will fit in with their clique. Be yourself and really try to get a feel for your interviewers. If you don't like the interviewers you don't want the job. No matter how desperate you are. Trust me. They are all cookie cutter "yes men" and Davenport would have it no other way.
- What does great customer service mean to you?
