Project Manager
The whole thing had four stages. First, a call with HR, then a virtual chat with the Director. After that, I went in person, and the last step was meeting the COO. It was a really good time, everyone was super chill and easy to chat with. The vibe was relaxed, not stressful at all. They mostly asked about my past work, the projects I've led, and how I juggle dealing with trades, deadlines, and what clients want.
- Can you describe the types of projects you oversee and how you navigate difficulties on-site, particularly with trade personnel?
- Please elaborate on the projects you manage and your strategies for addressing on-site challenges involving trades.
Site Superintendent
First, you submit an application, either online or by sending a resume and cover letter. This is where they first look at your qualifications and experience. Then, some companies might do a pre-screening, like a phone interview, to see if you're a good fit before inviting you for an in-person interview. This helps them narrow down who they want to talk to more. After that, there's usually an initial interview, which could be by phone, video, or in person. They want to get to know you better, see how you communicate, and talk more about your experience and what you can do. They'll ask you questions about your background and skills. Depending on the job, you might also have a technical assessment or skill test, like solving problems or showing you know a specific area related to the job.
- Can you introduce yourself?

Got a call from a recruiter, they gave me the lowdown on the job and asked if I was keen. I said yeah, and they mentioned setting up a SKYPE chat with a Project Manager. It took a few days to get it sorted. The interviewer was on time and cool. It was mostly just ticking boxes about my construction and leading skills, nothing too heavy. They also talked a bit about how the job works, like the fact that there's a lot of travel involved. Then they made an offer, which I accepted. Back to the recruiter for all the onboarding stuff. This included the full background/drug check, E-verify, and checking my driver's license. Still working through it, it's been two weeks already.
- Tell me about your general construction background, including your experience with things like level 5 Drywall.
- Can you describe your history with commercial construction projects?
- How do you feel about travel requirements for this role?
Lead Carpenter Foreman
First, I spoke with an HR Recruiter for about 30 minutes. We chatted about my experience and they explained the job requirements. I didn't really hear about benefits or why I should join Davaco. I got to ask some questions. The second interview was with a Field Supervisor, it was shorter than 20 minutes. This interview was all about whether I'd work nights, share a room, and just work hard constantly. It felt like an interrogation, like I had to prove myself. I didn't get to ask my prepared questions and barely got to talk. When I said I wanted the job, they said, "I don't know about this one." Both interviewers brought up the fact I was out of the trade for five years (2009-2014), even though I said I wanted 3rd shift, 100% travel work and had gaps.
- Are you familiar with level 5 sheet rock finish?
- Can you explain how to achieve a level five finish within an eight hour timeframe?
