Engineering Manager
The typical process for an Engineering Manager role starts with a recruiter call, followed by a hiring manager interview, then a skip-level manager chat, and finally a virtual onsite. The onsite includes System Design and discussions about executing on projects. It felt like the whole org is under tremendous pressure and stress, with most conversations revolving around employees sharing their stress. The system design round was set up strangely; the interviewer took notes and dug into details without giving much context.
- Could you design a data platform to offer health insights derived from vaccination status, taking into account that this status is dynamic and the system needs to handle the scale of the entire US population?
Software Engineer
It's a pretty standard process. It begins with a quick chat with a recruiter to gauge your fit and cover the basics. If that goes well, you move to a coding test where you have to debug some code. After that, there's a hiring manager chat. They seem pretty chill and answered my questions, though they were a bit preoccupied initially. The vibe was relaxed and open. If you make it past that, the final stage is the onsite interviews: a 1-hour coding session with progressively harder LeetCode-style problems, a 1-hour system design interview focused on the company's area, and a behavioral interview. The recruiter gives you a heads-up on what to expect. The behavioral part wasn't strictly STAR, more like a career rundown. Sadly, after all that, I got totally ghosted, even after trying to follow up. It's frustrating not getting any feedback. So, yeah, the overall experience was pretty bad because of that.
- Can you solve multiple algorithms like those found on Leetcode?
Health Information Specialist
The interview was pretty straightforward, but they tended to ask the same things over and over with just slightly different wording. It got a bit weird at the very end though, leading to a page that just said 'Your opportunity at Datavant' with no links or anything clickable. I'm not really sure if I'm done with the interview or not.
- Do you have a dedicated workspace?
Product Designer
The interview process stretched over two months and included a recruiter screen, a behavioral interview, a portfolio review, and a design challenge. I never got to speak with a hiring manager, and the original one apparently left. There was no central design leadership, and the product manager I spoke with didn't have much direct experience working with designers, suggesting I talk to other PMs to grasp handoff and working dynamics. There were issues with rescheduling and unclear job requirements, which were inconsistent across interviewers. I wasn't offered a final interview and received no feedback on why.
- Can you describe how you handle disagreements during product development?
