Account Executive
I recently interviewed with Datapeople for an Account Executive position. The whole process took about a month from start to finish and included 4 interviews. The HR team was great from the beginning, setting clear expectations about the interview process, which is also available on their careers page, and they communicated well throughout. After the initial HR screen, the first two interviews were with sales leadership and focused on my sales background and process. I was impressed by the RevOps leader who clearly loved what his team was building and how the company supports its sales team with fair compensation for bringing in business. It was compelling to hear about a clear compensation plan that rewards strong sales performance. The final interview was a presentation to the leadership team. They were very engaged during my presentation, which I appreciated given the effort required for the assignment. After the presentation, they promptly sent a gift card as a thank you for the time spent on the assignment. It was a refreshing experience compared to other sales roles I've interviewed for, where there was little engagement or compensation for similar assignments. Even though I didn't end up joining them, I can't say enough good things about the Datapeople team and their interview process. They really lived up to their company mission of improving the recruiting experience for candidates. Everyone I met was very friendly and offered to help if I had any questions. The HR team was exceptional, providing quick feedback after each stage. I highly recommend applying to Datapeople if you're passionate about making an impact and joining a mission-driven company.

Sales
Started with a recruiter chat, they were nice and explained things well. Then I talked to the direct manager. They were super late and didn't seem to care, dressed casually and were really unenthusiastic. They just bombarded me with questions about my sales approach and thoughts on the industry and company without any break or interaction. They cut me off before I could ask any questions, just saying they'd 'get with the team' to schedule next steps with leadership. Pretty quickly after, I got an automated email for a survey about the interview. The next day, I got a standard rejection email from the recruiter. I tried to get feedback, but they ghosted me. It was weird because they market themselves as a 'candidate-first' company.

Customer Success Manager
The process began with a recruiter call where we discussed my background and they answered my questions about the role and company. The recruiter was great, informative, and easy to talk to, which made me happy to write this review. However, I was repeatedly told I'd hear back the next day, but my two follow-up emails went unanswered. It seems my experience is just like the last reviewer's. I was shocked to be ghosted by a company focused on helping talent teams improve recruiting and candidate experience. It's ironic. As a former recruiter, I know how busy things get, but if you promise to follow up on a specific day, you should. Delays happen, and a simple "Sorry for the delay, I'm waiting on more info" would have been fine. I would have even accepted a rejection, especially since I was told I was moving forward on the call. While their product might be good, the talent team needs improvement. Given my experience and others', this is a major red flag and suggests our values don't align. With this being the 5th negative review out of 5 total, someone needs to look into this. No positive experiences have been posted.
- Can you share your Customer Success background?
Senior PHP Engineer
Had 3 phone calls with different team members, followed by a project assignment. For the project, I had 4 hours to get familiar with a new PHP framework, analyze 5000 lines of data, design a database, create an ingestor, and build an API for that data. They reviewed my work the next day and instead of saying they were moving forward, they spent an hour critiquing it, which I only had 4 hours to complete. If you want perfection, maybe give us less work. Also, no need to be rude to people who try their best to finish your project on time. For a company that wants a better interview process, you made mine very uncomfortable, time-consuming, and frustrating. I left feeling upset and would never reapply or work with the interviewers. I get that not every interview works out, but being respectful matters regardless of the outcome.
- Can you explain the design choices you made during the project?
