First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Datalink.
Cloud Engineer
They gave me 1 hour to complete two tasks. I had to connect remotely to a Windows Server and fix issues. The first task was a DNS issue, which I fixed. The second task was related to an app running in Docker containers. It took too much time, so I asked for extra time, and they allowed it. I solved it partly. Then, they called me for a one-to-one interview, but I failed that.
- Can you describe your experience with Linux administration?
IT Consultant
Got a call on Thursday night around 8:15pm. The recruiter talked about how my resume was a good fit for a position they needed to fill quickly. I said I was interested and to call me back the next day. The next day we spoke for an hour about the role. She said she would pass my information up. On the following Monday, I had a call with the next person, and it went well. That person was going to submit my profile to the company. I was then told my profile was submitted and I'd have an interview the following week. I emailed for updates and left messages, but got very few and late responses. Two weeks later, I was informed the position was closed with no further explanation.

Solutions Architect
The interview process started with a phone call from the recruiter. After that, there was supposed to be an interview with the hiring manager and then technical peers. The first scheduled interview with the hiring sales manager didn't happen because they didn't show up or call to reschedule. I told the recruiter, and they apologized profusely. It took almost two weeks to reschedule the interview with the hiring manager. When the hiring manager finally called for the interview, they seemed distracted and asked random questions about my past sales projects.
- Can you tell me about your experience with VDI configurations for specific projects?
Client Services Manager
Recruiter reached out within a few days of me applying. A week after that, I had a chat with the hiring manager. Then, two weeks later, I interviewed with the hiring manager again. About a week after that, I met with two other people. The hiring manager was great and kept me updated throughout. Overall, it was a really good experience.
- It was more of a discussion than anything out of the ordinary.
