Senior Account Executive
The interview process started with a hiring manager interview, which lasted 45 minutes. I found this interview quite underwhelming. The interviewer, who seemed to be some sort of sales 'manager', asked a lot of questions without a clear structure. It felt like she had already decided before the interview and was just going through the motions. She asked irrelevant questions like 'What's your favourite CRM?', which made me question her seniority. The hiring manager is based in Romania, while most of her team is in London, and she expects people to be in the office a few days a week. This made me wonder how she can effectively manage a team when she's two hours ahead and so far away. Her LinkedIn profile didn't show any significant sales leadership experience, which was evident during the interview. I did a lot of research, but received no feedback. Given her approach, this lack of feedback wasn't surprising; it was unprofessional. Even if I had progressed, I would have withdrawn because I didn't believe she could lead or support her team effectively. I spent a lot of time researching the company, only to receive a blunt rejection after over a week from Talent Acquisition, with no feedback. The annual quota is $900k, which seems more like an enterprise target than corporate. The salary is £75k/£75k with very basic benefits and only 20 days of annual leave, which is below average. Overall, it was a very poor candidate and interview experience.
- Can you tell me about your biggest success?
- What made you get into Sales?
- In a single word, how would you define Sales?
Account Executive
The application process was long and had rejections. It started at the end of January and I got rejected after 2 interviews and 2 months. It was a 100% remote position. The rejection came after 2 online meetings. My suggestion for improvement would be that the application process took way too long, I had to follow up after each interview for status updates (about 1-2 weeks later). I'm actually glad I got rejected because I think other issues would also take this long. I have several applications in progress and have already had several interviews.
- Considering the company's size, I anticipated a more professional approach.
Account Executive
The interview process was pretty smooth. I got contacted by the Chief Sales Officer because a friend referred me. We had a 30-minute call where he told me about DataCamp, and I shared my background and what I'm looking for in a sales role. Then, I went to the office to meet him in person. I asked lots of questions about the job, and he was really helpful. He then asked me to come back later that week to meet two Co-Founders and the Chief Customer Officer. It was a fast turnaround, but I was eager to move on, so I agreed. The Chief Sales Officer even called me after our first chat to help me prep for the second in-person interview, giving me tips on how to prepare and what to study. I could tell he really wanted me to do well. The second in-person interview lasted about 1.5 hours. He had prepped me beforehand, so I felt pretty confident. The next three interviews were standard, nothing unusual. Everyone was friendly and asked interesting questions, some really tough ones that made me think! The whole thing took under two weeks, and I verbally accepted the job offer the same night as my second in-person interview.
- Can you describe your current sales process?
- What is the typical length of your sales cycle?
- What are your reasons for not hiring me?
