Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Databricks.
Business Development Representative
A couple rounds, first round is easy - learn about the company and respond to basic questions, the second round is similar but more detailed, the third round has lots of behavioral questions and a practice cold call with a potential Databricks client.
- What kind of challenges do you deal with in your current role?
Business Development Representative
The interview experience with the snr recruiter was really disappointing. The conversation felt scripted and unwelcoming, with little real interest in my background or what I had to say. Every answer seemed to circle back to “we’re looking for overachievers,” without giving much genuine insight into the role or company. When I asked a simple question about the interview process (how many stages, what to expect), she was hesitant to share anything unless I made it past that round - very odd, not candidate-friendly and immediately raised red flags about transparency. It’s not like I was asking what questions are going to be asked or even what to prepare for. The tone throughout was unfriendly and, at times, inappropriate. I mentioned my current situation and that my previous company had shut down, so I’d been made redundant. The recruiter’s response was: “Did you leave because you knew it was shutting down?” Incredibly tone-deaf, inappropriate, and unprofessional. I am not expecting any sympathy or empathy but at least a decent humane response would be nice. Overall, it left a very negative impression. If this is the recruiter attitude at Databricks, I dread to imagine the culture inside. No animosity towards the company itself, I think the product is fantastic but a truly awful (probably the WORST) human encounter I have ever had.
- We only want to hire over-achievers, so how did your sales performance stack up against the rest of your sales team in your previous company?
Business Development Representative
The first contact via email was professional and friendly, which created a positive first impression. However, the initial interview experience did not match those expectations. During the interview, I found it hard to communicate clearly because the recruiter did not seem very engaged or actively listening. The conversation focused too much on specific quantitative targets from my past roles, which made it hard to talk about my strengths and weaknesses in a broader way. The recruiter often said, "Let me rephrase that," and at one point even asked a completely different question, which made me feel like I had misunderstood every question. This style created an uncomfortable atmosphere and made the interview feel broken up and confusing. I understand that performance metrics are important, but I feel a more open and conversational style would have been a more respectful and constructive interview.
