I interviewed in early March and they said they'd decide within a week since they were closing interviews. I followed up the next week and they emailed back saying they just finished interviews and HR would be in touch. Nobody ever contacted me by phone or email. I got ghosted.

I had one interview before getting an offer for this mid-level role. It was in the transportation and public works department. The interview lasted about an hour and I met with 5 people: the hiring manager, HR, and some future colleagues. Everyone asked one question. I also had to prepare a presentation on a certain topic.

Behavioral

I went through a panel interview with four people, and they asked 11 questions, which felt a little overwhelming. I found that using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) really helped me organize my answers. The questions were mostly behavioral, covering things like diversity, how to deal with a difficult boss, and how I've created instructional materials. I made sure to highlight my knack for understanding processes and how I’ve improved them. It’s super important to get ready by having specific examples lined up and to keep your answers brief and to the point.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

I applied for a coordinator position back in Feb 2022 and heard back to schedule an interview in April 2022. The process started with a 20 min phone screening, followed by a 45 min panel interview with 3-5 people from different departments. The last interview was with the assistant city manager. This last interview wasn't communicated to me when I inquired about the next steps, leading me to believe they might have been uncertain about my candidacy. During this final interview, she was late and started by saying she wasn't prepared. She also seemed unaware of what was happening when I asked some questions toward the end, even for questions not directly related to the job description. While she did suggest I ask a specific person about one of my questions, her response to another was unclear. Even if an offer was extended, I would have declined it due to the experience, and I'm sure I didn't get the role but never got any confirmation either way.
