First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at D'Addario.
Quality Control Specialist
It was a super simple, single panel interview. The catch is they hire woodwind musicians for Quality Control. So, you gotta play classical and jazz pieces they give you beforehand. They wanna know about your music smarts, if you're good with tech, and if you know how factory machines work (since it's hard to be great at all three).
- What makes you want to join D'Addario?
Sales
After getting a referral, I got a call from HR about a week later for a phone chat. It was pretty chill, more of a conversation about my background and career goals, and checking if I'd fit the company culture. A few days later, I went to their office in Sun Valley for an interview. They do group interviews, and I was with about 5 interviewers. It felt friendly, even with their VP there. They asked a mix of standard and tougher sales-related questions. A few days after that, the HR person called to let me know they chose other candidates, which was honest feedback I appreciated.
- Can you tell me about a time you failed?
- How would you handle a customer who doubted the quality of our products?
Creative Director
I first talked to a recruiter, then had a quick chat with the Director of HR who was super nice and gave me lots of info. The next interview involved a 30-minute talk with the Director of Marketing, followed by the President and CEO joining for another 30 minutes. We talked for an hour, it wasn't really a Q&A, and I found out we had a lot in common - I didn't play an instrument, didn't golf, and wasn't over 6' tall. That seemed to do it, I got the job and really enjoyed working with those three.
- What are your thoughts on working in a family business and managing family members?
Marketing
So the hiring managers didn't even look at my resume before our meeting. The head of the department left the room right at the start, and kept coming and going. They seemed more concerned about their next meeting. Honestly, they should have just had HR send a quick email saying they weren't interested.
- Tell me about your experience in marketing, digital, and branding.
