First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cuyahoga Community College.
Administrative Assistant
The whole process was really disorganized, unprofessional, and disrespectful. I applied five months before they even called me for an interview. When I asked who would be interviewing me, I was told I'd find out during the interview. When I pushed, they said the scheduler didn't know. I tried calling the administrator's office for the department, and they gave me wrong info. The actual interview had really vague and some inappropriate questions. When I mentioned it, they told me not to tell anyone, then later said it didn't matter because the College has powerful lawyers and staff, and they can fire anyone at will, so discrimination claims wouldn't stick.
- How do you define diversity?
- What would be your course of action if a student reported being bullied by the Dean to you?
Marketing
I applied online and after about a month, I followed up. A week after that, I was called in for an interview. The whole process took 2 months, which is pretty slow for hiring, but it's typical for schools. The actual job wasn't what was advertised on the website, which annoyed me. I asked them to explain the day-to-day tasks more and asked other questions about what I would be doing. I guess I showed I wasn't interested because I didn't get a call back, even though the interview seemed to go well. It's probably for the best since the position wasn't the right fit. They really need to update their job descriptions.
- Can you tell me about your past accomplishments and responsibilities?
- Describe your previous experiences.
- Please be ready to address questions related to diversity.
Academic Advisor
I applied online and heard back about a month later about an on-campus interview. I had an in-person interview with 4 staff members where we rotated around when asking questions. It lasted about an hour and covered topics like diversity, handling different student populations, how to best serve them, and my interest in the position and school.
- Could you describe a time you dealt with a "difficult" student and how you managed the situation?
- How do you approach situations involving diverse student populations?
- What are your strategies for effectively serving specific student groups?
Human Resources Coordinator
A staffing agency reached out to me. I then spoke with the HR manager and someone else on the team I would have been working with. They were both really nice. The manager explained the job duties and asked about my experience and how I handle situations. I submitted examples of my past work, which seemed to make a good impression. I also provided a letter of recommendation from my previous supervisor.
- What drew you to Tri-C?
