Account Manager
I applied for an Account Manager role on LinkedIn and was contacted by the CEO. The CEO then set up an initial interview with their head of HR. After that, I was scheduled for an interview with the Sales Manager. However, this interview got rescheduled multiple times. When it finally happened, it turned out to be for a different position with a significantly lower salary.
- Would you feel okay managing 10-20 customers?
Sales Manager
The interview process was long, repetitive, and poorly executed. It took over two months and had 7 stages. Lots of the interviews asked the same questions as before, just from different people. The office was a cluttered mess and would be a terrible place to work daily. The warehouse was backed up, unorganized, and overwhelming. Management was also bad at communicating and very unprofessional. They made me wait weeks to hear back after each stage, and then just stopped responding because someone else got the job, and they didn't bother to tell me after the two-month process. Worst interview experience ever.
- Can you share an instance of failure? Describe your reaction, the consequences it had, what you'd alter, and how it continues to impact you?
- Be ready with multiple follow-up answers to your initial response!
Marketing Manager
The HR Director was super professional and engaging, and the first interview felt good with them talking about high-level strategy and genuinely caring about my background. But, all that good vibe went out the window when I had my video interview with the CEO. He clearly hadn't read my resume or cover letter, and didn't even talk to HR about me beforehand. The interview was kinda pointless, he didn't talk about the job or my marketing background in the industry (I've been running marketing for six years in this exact field), and just asked basic stuff and complained about my commute, which isn't even that long. He focused on small tasks instead of my leadership and strategy skills. He even asked for my portfolio, but my tracking shows he never opened the link. Then, I got a super generic rejection on a Friday evening saying my background wasn't a 'fit,' which was insulting since I totally met their job posting requirements.
- The questions asked were none.
Videographer Editor
The interview process was pretty standard for my field, lasting about a month. They even offered to pay me for the video tests, which was a nice touch. It started with a phone call, then a Zoom meeting a few days later. About a week after that, I came in for a video test and an in-person interview. I didn't hear back right away, so I dropped off a physical copy of my video and introduced myself in person, which I later found out was the deciding factor. This company is a great place to work, and I now see why the interview process was more involved than others I'd experienced.
- Are you actively working on improving your skills outside of your job?
