It was a pretty standard interview process for a Senior Product Designer role. First, there was a 30-minute phone screen with HR. Then, I had a 1-hour video call with a designer, which involved a portfolio review and some behavioral questions. After that, I did a take-home design challenge. The in-person loop consisted of three 1-hour interviews, plus a coffee chat with two engineers. We reviewed the take-home challenge with another designer, and I interviewed with an engineering lead and a PM. They asked standard behavioral questions that were challenging but insightful. Finally, I had a 1-hour interview with the CTO, which was tough but a good conversation where I learned about company goals and how I'd fit in. The recruiter was very upfront throughout. It took a few weeks longer than expected because I was on vacation, but they communicated well, were flexible with my schedule, and it felt like a good test of what they were looking for.

The hiring process felt pretty long but it gave me a good vibe about the company and the people working there. I went through about 6 hours of remote interviews before eventually having an in-person interview. The questions were tough if you didn't have the specific experience they were looking for, but they seemed really fair to me. The team seemed super competent and easy to get along with, making me feel like they'd be great colleagues. I would have taken their offer if not for some personal reasons involving moving.

The interviewer seemed unprepared, not really discussing the job responsibilities or what Curalate sought in a candidate. I was asked two questions in the screener: "What are you up to?" and "Do you have any questions for me?" Trying to get the interviewer to answer questions or discuss Curalate felt like a real struggle, as if they weren't engaged at all. Definitely one of the stranger screeners I've been through.
