First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cumberland County Department of Social Services.
Benefits Specialist
This was a waste of time. It felt very unfair because it seemed like they already knew who they were hiring. They did the interviews just to say they held them. This was a waste of time. Processing Assistant
I went through the interview, and the people there were nice. It was a panel interview with three interviewers. I wish I'd known it was a panel interview ahead of time. They asked questions one by one.
- What is your vision for yourself in five years?
Health Educator
It was a short interview with a panel of managers. Everyone recorded their answers and had a list of questions to ask me. The questions were pretty general, but there were a couple about WIC history, like when it began.
- What is your understanding of this role?
- Can you introduce yourself?
- Regarding WIC, when did it originate?
Social Worker
I talked to HR about a job and she invited me to a Hiring Blitz that weekend, which is like an interview. You have to apply first to even get invited. After the interview, they emailed me 3 weeks later saying they picked someone else. On the day of the interview, we all sat in a meeting room, and someone talked about the job, then we did a written exercise. The exercise was about a scenario where a child on your case got bit by a dog, and what you'd do next as a social worker. After that, they called us individually and took us to the floor for our interview. It was a panel of 3 supervisors and lasted about 30-40 minutes. They asked two-part questions, so you gotta have a good memory or you'll forget the second part.
- Can you explain the policy?
- How would you go about conducting a conference?
- What's your approach to working with someone who dislikes you?
