First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Culver.
Camp Counselor
The initial phone screen was straightforward and pleasant. The hiring manager seemed to know exactly what they were looking for and was very direct. The whole interaction felt professional and friendly, like a normal conversation that just flowed. It didn't feel like a high-pressure situation, so I didn't feel anxious.
- Do you have experience working with children, and how would you manage different scenarios that might arise?
- Are you comfortable and skilled in handling situations involving children?
Assistant Counselor
It was a quick interview on Skype. They asked general questions to make sure I wasn't strange and was actually the person on my resume. Then, they told me about the job. They didn't mention the terrible hours, lack of benefits, and that some of the staff were not competent. They made it sound like a great place to work to get you to apply. I'd only suggest it to people who went to this camp before and would work there even if they had no breaks and basically for free.
- What motivated your interest in this position?
Counselor
The interview will be conducted over Skype. It's a behavioral interview to see if you're a good fit for the Culver family. You should be ready to say what role you want at Culver. If you went to Culver, make sure you say you're not coming back for a 4th year of summer school. Emphasize that you want to work at Culver to make a difference in young people's lives and give them the Culver experience that's so respected.
- What are your hobbies?
- What position are you hoping to get at Culver?
- If you attended Culver, how would you make it clear you are not returning for a 4th summer school session?
Intern
I applied online. The whole thing took about a month. After I sent in my resume, there was a phone call, then another phone call with the department head, and after that an on-campus interview which was basically a marathon day. The marathon interview included dinner with someone already doing the internship, and then a bunch of interviews with teachers, the headmaster, and other admin people.
- What are your goals for this internship?
- Describe your high school self.
