This whole process was a nightmare, they really wasted my time. It's the second time they asked me for a skills test, and they lost it again. The first time was years ago, right after I finished cancer treatment. I spent hours on a design skills test, creating a mockup and recording a video submission through their online portal, answering some questions too. It happened again last month when I applied for a similar job. Someone finally contacted me saying their system "crashed" right after I applied. It felt really disrespectful. I also saw on Reddit that they use some really invasive surveillance software on remote employees. Maybe I dodged a bullet, though. Honestly, don't bother applying, they seem unserious and kind of cruel.

It was a long process. First, I sent in my resume, cover letter, and a video answering some questions. Then there was a screening call. After that, I had to do 3 tests in just a couple of days. One was an email to a client who wasn't paying, another was a design task, and the last one was a coding test for WordPress. These took a while, maybe 20 mins for the email and up to an hour or more for the design and coding parts. The instructions weren't always clear, and they didn't give much info or assets. I had to decide whether to do a quick prototype without real assets or a more finished design. It was a lot, especially if you don't usually rush your work or if you aim for a polished result. The WordPress test was super confusing, so confusing that I decided not to do it and even asked my partner, a senior WordPress dev, to look at it. He was also confused and thought it was too much for a designer. I also wondered why designers would be asked to handle overdue client emails. It felt like they were trying to get a lot of work done quickly and didn't care about the quality, like a 'design mill'. I didn't want that kind of job, so it's probably for the best I didn't get an offer.

I took a skills test and it went well, then I advanced to the next part of the hiring process. After that, I had a zoom interview. The questions were pretty basic, but I didn't have much to say because I lacked experience. Even though I did great on the skills test, I didn't get the job because other people had more experience.
