Had a 30 min recruiter screen first. Then a 30 min call with the hiring manager. The final round was about 3 hours long with multiple duos. The first duo was with the production team to check my skills, then 1-2 interviews with the teams I'd be producing to see if I understood their discipline and how to produce them. The last duo was with some higher-ups to discuss leadership and my long-term goals.

The recruiter contacted me and it was the most relaxed "job conversation" I've had. This entire process was new to me given the current circumstances, and she was excellent with communication. Since we couldn't meet in person, I was worried about getting lost in emails, but that never happened. She was upfront about the number of interviews and explained the reasons, which I appreciated. Usually, you just interview without really getting to know anyone. I felt I had the chance to connect with people and have genuine conversations that covered not just job expectations, but also character expectations and the type of person they were looking for. It felt like I wasn't just interviewing for a job, but for a career. They invested time in getting to know me and ensuring it was a mutual fit. The best part was how easy it was to reach Christeen, the recruiter. She would reply to texts by 8 PM or follow up first thing in the morning. I felt like part of the team even before being hired. In many past jobs, I ended up disliking them due to productivity issues with other employees, so I really liked that Crystal makes sure it's a good fit for both sides.

A recruiter from LinkedIn reached out about a Gameplay Animator position. Interview 1 was very chill. The recruiter was nice and interested in my animation journey, even though they weren't familiar with software like Maya or UE, which I was happy to explain. The questions were simple, covering hobbies, favorite games, future goals, and software used. It lasted about an hour. I was told I met the criteria and would proceed to the next interview. Interview 2 required signing an NDA. I met the lead animator and we discussed the technical and artistic side of animation. They were also pretty chill and curious about me. I fit their criteria, but I asked for a higher salary than they offered, so they had to pass. The recruiter gave me good feedback afterwards on LinkedIn about how I could improve for future interviews.

Applied online. Had a recruiter call, then a 1 on 1 zoom call with the hiring manager. Another recruiter call followed to confirm salary expectations. Team interviews happened two weeks later. It felt like they had a candidate already and were just trying to meet quotas. The hiring manager understood my hesitation about being pigeonholed into the FGC genre, but then offered me a role on a different team that was restarting, at a much lower salary, requiring me to start the whole process over.
