It started with a chat with HR, who was really nice and helpful. Then I had an interview with the hiring manager, and they were also super friendly and seemed really into it.

The whole thing took like 2 months from when the recruiter first called me to when they said they hired someone more aligned. There were 3 main rounds, with a few weeks between each. First, a 30-min call with a recruiter. He asked basic stuff like 'tell me about yourself' and to rate my project management skills. Since we ran out of time, I had to email him more details about my PM experience and a time I recovered from something. A couple weeks later, I talked to the hiring manager for about an hour. The plan was to focus on my work history and tools I've used. I made a whole presentation to cover everything, which actually made that interview go faster because I'd already answered most of her questions. I also had good questions for her, and we had a nice chat. The recruiter later said it was impressive and I'd move to a 'final round'. This was supposed to be a 3-hour panel with 7 people, asking situational and behavioral questions, followed by another chat with the recruiter. I prepped for weeks, listening to podcasts to get the company culture, how the role fit in, and prepared STAR answers based on their values. I was ready, but honestly, those 3 hours of back-to-back video questions sounded rough. I did really well though, even with a strange round with two ladies from product who seemed unprepared and asked weirdly worded situational questions. I stayed calm, asked for clarification, and answered hypothetically since their questions were half-baked. After all that, I met with the recruiter again. She told me there'd be one more round with the hiring manager's boss. Apparently, they were supposed to interview me like everyone else. She said I'd hear back in about 2 weeks because of scheduling issues and because they still had other candidates to talk to. The recruiter was nice, but the process was way too long and drawn out, especially for the pay, which was below market. It also feels unfair if candidates aren't interviewing with the same people.

The virtual tour of the facility sent at the end was confusing as no offer was extended due to seeking someone with more specialized experience, despite my career being built on that and having above and beyond the needed experience. Honesty was lacking as I was upfront about my salary expectations on the phone screen, yet my time was still wasted, and they couldn't be upfront about not extending an offer due to cost.
