Software Engineer
It was a pretty standard phone screen, just as expected. Then, for the second round, a technical screen, they called me with absolutely no warning, no confirmation, and no calendar invite. I went through with it because I wasn't sure if I had forgotten about it, but I would have 100% rescheduled if I had known in advance. It felt like a joke when I got the rejection email a week later. But honestly, did I even want to move forward with them?
- Tell me about yourself and your experience.
- Here is a coding problem for you to solve.
Software Engineer
Applied online and got a recruiter callback. Then I was sent a Hackerrank which I completed. After that, I had a call with an engineer, which was mostly cultural. Then I was contacted again to schedule an onsite interview. I was supposed to have 5-6 rounds during the onsite, but they cut me off after 2 rounds because I didn't meet the technical bar. I had rudimentary solutions for all the problems, so I don't think I deserved to be cut off like that. It felt disrespectful because they seemed to be looking for someone who could do perfect algorithms all the time, and they didn't seem to care about my experiences or the hardships I've faced as an engineer. It's possible they already hired someone while I was interviewing, which would be poor internal communication. They should have at least finished the onsite, then rejected me and given me feedback. I asked for feedback and got a generic response, and when I tried to get more specific feedback, I think I was ghosted.
- Questions on data structures and algorithms were asked.
Software Engineer
This was a pretty exceptional interview process, much better than others I've had. My recruiter clearly laid out the goals and structure early on, and communication was consistently fast and good. The process included a technical stage, a behavioral stage, and then a full-day virtual onsite. All interviewers were attentive and gave great feedback, even on tougher problems. They seemed more interested in my thought process than just getting the right answer, which was good because I didn't nail every question.
- The recruiter will inform you about what to anticipate, although an NDA was signed. Don't over-prepare; I went a bit too far in studying certain topics. There were no questions designed to trick you.
