I started with a phone screen with someone from Talent Acquisition. The following week, I had three 30-minute interviews with HR, the hiring manager, and a manager from another team. The week after that, I went in person for interviews with another manager from a different team, the director, and someone currently in the role. About a week and a half after that, I found out I didn't get the job.

I had an initial Zoom call with the recruitment lead to go over the role and my background. It went well, and then a second interview was set up with the hiring manager. She was running a bit late, so I checked in with the recruiter. She joined soon after and apologized, saying it wasn't top of mind. A few things seemed off during this interview: they focused on paid digital advertising, which wasn't in the job post, and didn't ask specific questions about my experience related to the job. Also, despite being remote, the role requires travel to the home office more than once a month, and there's an assignment for an AVP-level position, which is unusual. When I asked about the travel, I got a vague answer and a mini-lecture on in-person meetings. Afterward, I let the recruiter and hiring manager know my concerns transparently, understanding it might hurt my chances. The recruiter confirmed their process is standard.

The hiring process took more than four months and included nine one-hour interviews, some virtually and some in person. I also had to do an assignment where I made a 20-page presentation that was super relevant to the job. It was between me and another person, but then they told me the role had changed and I could reapply if I wanted to. I felt kinda weird about that, like it was a waste of time and effort that could have been avoided. So, I decided to pull out.

So, I interviewed for this Product Owner gig back in June 2024. First up was a quick chat with the talent acquisition person. Then, I had a more formal interview with my potential manager, which went super well! She seemed really positive and said I should hear back about the next steps within a week. She did mention that with vacations coming up, scheduling might get a bit tricky, but was still optimistic. After that, I ended up chasing the original TA advisor, my prospective manager, AND a senior TA staff member for over SIX weeks. Finally, after all that chasing, I was told they weren't moving forward with me. I get that things get delayed, but honestly, ghosting candidates for over six weeks without any update before a second interview is just bad form, in my opinion.
