First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cruise.
Test Engineer
I started with a call to the recruiter and then the manager. After that, there were 2 more rounds: a technical screen with the tech lead, and a panel interview with 5 engineers and project managers. They asked a mix of behavioral and technical questions.
- What checks can be done in the garage before a test is run in the field?
Systems Test Engineer
I was referred by a former colleague and spoke with a sourcer within an hour. Then I had a technical interview focusing on Python a week later. The recruiter was really hard to reach, missed meetings, called at unexpected times, emailed with the wrong name, and sent broken links. The next step was a virtual onsite with 5 one-hour sessions covering domain knowledge, Python technical skills, and behavioral questions. After the interviews, the recruiter went missing again, and I only got back in touch after chasing them up over the weekend. They said an offer was being generated and salary expectations were discussed. However, over a month passed with constant delays and excuses about needing more approvals or new salary bands requiring a restart. It made me doubt if the company was real, but I continued because of my inside contact. When the offer finally arrived, it was incorrect and not what we discussed. I had to wait another 48 hours for a corrected offer. Thankfully, I signed and no longer have to deal with that recruiter.
- Tell me about Python functional programming and OOP.
- Design an AV-specific scenario.
- How would you define and design metrics for AV systems?
Hardware Test Engineer
I had one phone interview where they asked me some normal behavior questions and a few questions about my internship experiences. Everything went smoothly. The HR said they would give me feedback in a week. A week later, they told me that others were a better fit for the position.
