First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cray.
Software Architect
I was contacted by a head hunter who found me on LinkedIn, likely due to my connections and profile. I sent my resume to the head hunter, who then forwarded it to Cray. I went through a first telephone interview, followed by a second telephone interview. My background includes writing software from scratch, design, and all software life cycle phases, but my most recent experience is primarily Level 3 support. This role was for new development, which turned out to be the issue, and the reason I wasn't offered the position.
- Could you describe your process for writing software?
Software Engineer
My resume got to Cray, and I was soon called for an on-site interview. The first round had 8 individual 30-minute interviews with three different groups. These focused more on my resume and interests than technical questions. Then, I had a second round with two of the original groups, consisting of 6 individual 45-minute interviews. These were similar, with more personality questions and few technical ones. They added a final interview with a senior manager at the end of the day. He said they'd decide that day and would inform me about the offer within 24 hours. It took about 10 days to hear back, and they didn't make an offer.
- Given a 7-piece segmented gold bar, how would you pay someone daily for 7 days, completing payment by week's end with equal daily amounts, using only two breaks?
- Can you explain what memory paging is?
Data Scientist
I had two phone interviews and then went straight to the onsite. There were 6 rounds in total. The interviewers were really nice and helpful. We started with lunch, which was casual, but the ones that followed were more technical.
- Could you start with some white board coding?
- Tell me about machine learning algorithms.
- It's important for someone to understand the basics.
Training Specialist
They spent a lot of time explaining the details of the job to me since it was a new role. They were upfront about their current situation and talked more than they asked me questions, which was great when I got hired. I felt like I really knew what I was getting into. I interviewed with six different people.
- How would you measure the success of the training programs you develop?
