Summer Associate
First, I had a quick chat with HR, and then a longer conversation with the Hiring Manager. It was a relaxed, friendly vibe, but they asked some really detailed questions about my time in law school, the classes I took, and how I dealt with certain situations in my past jobs.
- Tell me about law school.
- Describe how you handled certain scenarios in your work experience.
Associate
The initial screener was a brief 15-minute process, mostly focusing on questions about my current summer job. The main interview process spanned a full day, with each interviewer session lasting approximately 45 minutes, though some could run longer. A mandatory part of the process is selecting two practice groups you're interested in, even if you only have a strong preference for one. Then, you're unexpectedly interviewed by someone from your secondary choice group and expected to explain your desire to work there, despite your lack of interest. I think this part of the process needs improvement as it doesn't seem logical.
- Can you discuss your current role?
- What is your motivation for wanting to join Cravath?
Summer Associate
I went through my school's OCI for this. First, there was a screener that was super chill and conversational. They asked about my past jobs, why I was interested in CSM, and my thoughts on law school. Then came the callback, which was pretty extensive – five interviews in total, each 45 minutes long. Three were with partners and two were with associates. I really liked that I got to ask a bunch of questions (definitely come prepared!) and meet a lot of the team. The associate interviews felt more like casual coffee chats to see if it was a good mutual fit. Nothing too out there, but expect to discuss everything on your resume.
- Why did you choose to study law?
- What makes you want to practice law in NYC?
- Could you share your favorite book?
