First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Crane Co..
Design Engineer
The process was pretty straightforward. The interviewer was on time. I was asked some fundamental physics questions from college and some basic mechanical design questions relating to my past work. Some personal questions were asked too, which felt a bit unnecessary but that's common in India.
- Could you walk me through the design process you followed in your previous job?
- How did you approach the design process in your prior role?
- Describe your experience with the design process from your last job.
Intern
So, the whole Crane interview process has three main parts. First, there's an HR phone chat where they just want to see if you get the role and fit what they're looking for. They'll ask you some basic questions, and then you'll get this questionnaire, like a Big Five personality test. After that, it's a long in-person panel interview, about 3-4 hours. You'll meet an HR person, the hiring manager, and a couple of other managers, maybe people who report to them or work at their level. Finally, you'll have a chat with a big boss, like a VP or someone even higher up, depending on the job. They also usually check your references around this time.
- Tell me about your past work experience, including the companies, roles, and why you left each.
- What aspects did you enjoy about your previous jobs?
- What aspects did you not enjoy about your previous jobs?
Business Line Manager
The interview process started with a phone interview, which was alright. The next stage was supposed to be a video conference at the Woodlands office, but it turned out to be just a conference call, which was a real letdown. I drove an hour and a half for that. They really talked up their hiring process, claiming they select the best. The job was listed in Woodlands, but most communication seemed to be with the Conroe office, which was confusing. After the interview, I wasn't impressed enough to follow up. It felt like a lot of empty talk.
- Could you share an example that demonstrates [a specific skill or situation]?
- Tell me about a time when you had to [perform a specific action or face a challenge], and provide an example.
- Can you give an example of when you experienced [a certain situation]?
Supply Chain Planner
The interview process began with a 30-minute phone call from an HR representative to go over basic employment history and experience. This was followed by an in-depth, 60-minute phone interview with a manager focusing on professional experience relevant to the role. Many questions in this round were follow-ups to previous answers. The third stage was an intensive, three-hour in-person interview at the warehouse/office with three interviewers (two managers and one HR rep) using the SIDS process. This involved a chronological review of my entire employment history and education, from high school/college to the present, with similar questions asked for each experience. The final step was a more informal phone interview with the site leader, intended as a get-to-know-you session.
- In hindsight, what about your college experience would you change or improve?
- What was your most significant success during college?
- Could you describe your proudest accomplishment in your previous role?
