After submitting your online application, the first step is a phone screening where they'll ask you some preliminary questions before the main Panel Interview. Be ready, the questions can be tough and sometimes lengthy. When prepping, expect some light conversation to get you comfortable, followed by questions about your background (education, work history, skills, accomplishments). They'll also ask job-specific questions about your strengths, weaknesses, and how you'd handle certain situations. You'll also encounter behavioral questions where they'll want examples of times you've shown specific skills. Lastly, you'll have a chance to ask your own questions. Just be yourself, be honest, show you're excited about the role, highlight your skills, and have some good questions ready.

A recruiter reached out to me about a Manager, IT Operations role. First, there was a phone interview that was about an hour and a half long. It wasn't a standard format, just questions about my experience in various IT areas. Then, I had a face-to-face interview with three people, including the CIO. This interview was informal, discussing how I would handle issues at CPS Energy and focusing more on strategy. After the interview, it took about 3 to 4 weeks to get the final offer, mostly due to HR delays. I was told early on verbally that they were interested.

So I had three interviews in total. It started with a phone call with HR, then a virtual interview where I met the hiring manager and a panel. The final interview was in person with the hiring manager and their boss. About a week after that third interview, they asked for some work samples, which I sent over. I thought I did alright in the interviews. The whole thing took about 3 months. After the third interview, I had to call them after two weeks to follow up on the status, and that's when I got a rejection email.

I applied for the job and heard back within a month for a 30-minute phone call with HR. They wanted to see if I was a good fit and could handle tough situations. Then, I had an in-person technical interview with the hiring manager and another DBA. It lasted about an hour and covered most DBA topics. They asked some open-ended questions and some straightforward ones. I felt good about my answers. The interviewers were nice and helpful, no tricky questions.
