First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at CP Kelco.
Facilities Manager
First, a recruiter called to see if my experience and I were a good fit for the role. Then, I had an in-person panel interview with my potential manager and some colleagues, where they asked more questions specific to the position.
- Tell me about your previous experience in environments similar to a lab.
Engineer
They were very clear that they prioritize low turnover, and a candidate who wouldn't leave. The interview process was pretty standard, but they seemed to be in a bit of a rush to get it done. It started with a phone screen with a panel of technical experts, then an on-site interview. The on-site mainly consisted of group/panel discussions, with a few one-on-one chats with different business leaders.
- What technical questions do you have related to the equipment at the facility, where my resume noted experience?
- Can you discuss standard PSM work flow processes and tools, such as MOCs and PHAs?
- Are you familiar with the company?
Process Engineer
So, I'm currently at a great company with awesome mentors, but I'm just exploring what else is out there. One of the interviewers was really trying to get under my skin, saying if I'm looking for a 9 to 5, this job isn't it, and that they hired someone from my current company who totally bombed. Honestly, leaders need to realize that if they tap into employees' motivations, people will go above and beyond. Otherwise, they'll just work for the paycheck, 40 hours a week. A lot of 40-hour week employees? That screams bad leadership. I'm not impressed by leaders who just act tough. I'm not desperate for money and I'm happy. Why would I want to work with a brilliant jerk? People only do the bare minimum for bad leaders. Stop blaming employees for being lazy or incompetent. How people view you as a leader and as a company says everything about your leadership skills.
- Can you discuss your experience with Process Safety Management?
- What's your background with PHAs?
- Tell me about your knowledge of LOPAs.
Team Lead
Started with a phone call to check out my experience and see if I'd be a good fit. Then, they had me come in for an on-site where I had three separate interviews: one with the plant and ops managers, another with HR, and a final one with two area managers. After that, it was a background check.
- Can you tell me about your experience level?
- What are your troubleshooting capabilities?
- How would you describe your technical understanding?
