Director of Information Technology
I applied for a Director of IT position and found the interview process to be disorganized and unprofessional, showing little respect for candidates' time. Communication was a major problem, with emails often going unanswered for weeks or months. After applying in April, I was only told in October that the role was cancelled. Later, I found out it was filled in December by someone with connections, even though they lacked experience in current IT practices. The final interview involved a large panel of 46 people. I presented my ideas on empathetic leadership, team development, and strategic tech use, offering to help modernize the outdated tech stack and cut costs while improving scalability and resilience. However, these suggestions weren't seriously considered. Throughout the process, I submitted detailed write-ups like 30/60/90 day plans, staff and tech development strategies, and modernization proposals, which seemed to be used internally without acknowledgment. There was also poor internal communication leading to mixed messages and confusion. A year later, a new IT Manager role was posted, suggesting the earlier hiring decision based on connections over qualifications didn't work out. If you value transparency and a respectful hiring process, be cautious. The organization's mission might be good, but the candidate treatment shows a lack of alignment, professionalism, and accountability.
- How would you go about creating a long-term IT strategy for the company?
Case Manager
I had a panel interview with department administrators. It was virtual. Everyone was very professional and kind. It felt encouraging. The whole thing lasted an hour. They gave me feedback on my answers when I asked. I'd totally apply for other jobs there. They seem like a good team.
- What makes you want this particular role?
- Can you describe your approach to providing case management that is culturally relevant?
- What's your method for prioritizing tasks or cases?
Director
The interview process included an in-person meeting with several members of the tribe. The staff were nice but the questions were pre-written, which meant the people asking them couldn't clarify their content. The entire process was conducted via fax (submission) and phone calls; no emails were used.
No confirmed questions were included in this interview report.
Licensed Mental Health Therapist
I sent my resume to Cowlitz Tribal Health and they got back to me pretty quickly, emailing me about an interview within a week. The waiting room was pretty bare, but everyone there was super friendly. It really seems like a young, growing organization that's focused on giving good services to Native children.
- What makes you want to leave your current job and join Cowlitz?
- How do you manage stress?
