First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at CourseKey.
Sales Development Representative
The process was good, smooth, and everyone was nice to talk to. It was a standard phone screen and then two more interviews over zoom. Everyone answered questions, and the recruiter was also very helpful with answering any questions I had throughout the process.
- How do you generate leads
UX Designer
The hiring process at CourseKey was quite unusual. I previously applied for a UX role and after speaking with three individuals, including a VP, I received no feedback. Deciding to give them another chance, I was contacted for a UX position. I initially had reservations but decided to proceed to see if things had improved. I had a phone screen with the hiring manager where they discussed the company, the UX role, and company objectives, and asked me about my background. Following that, I was given a design exercise to complete. After submitting it, I was surprised to find that I received no feedback once again. This brought back my earlier concerns about the lack of communication during the interview process and the nature of the design exercise itself. The exercise felt product-specific, which raised a major concern for me as it seemed like an attempt to solicit free ideas at the expense of my time and creative effort. Furthermore, it doesn't accurately reflect how a designer would tackle a real-world problem with the resources available to an employee versus a candidate.
- Could you tell me about the design tools you typically use?
Front End Developer
They start with a call to get to know you, your background, and your motivation for joining their company. If that goes well, a front end engineer will call you to discuss general React and Javascript concepts. If your answers are satisfactory, they'll schedule an in-person interview with the entire team. This onsite interview involves numerous questions about web development, with a strong emphasis on front end technologies and the React/Redux ecosystem. You'll also be asked to analyze provided Javascript code and solve coding challenges on a whiteboard. Finally, you'll receive a coding assignment to be completed within a 3-hour timeframe.
- Can you write a function that mimics the behavior of Javascript generators?
Manager
A recruiter reached out and we had a video interview screen, which seemed to go well. Next step was to meet with the CEO. Interview was scheduled but then was canceled last minute due to a conflict. After following up a few times, heard back that the position was getting pulled and they are moving in a different direction with it.
- Tell me about yourself, followed by a back-and-forth discussion on your experience and qualifications, not a list of questions but more conversational.
