Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Coupang.
Data Scientist
Got contacted by HR, they sent the JD. Then the job title shifted. First interviewer was not engaging and didn't clarify the new hire's responsibilities. Another HR person took over scheduling, but it was messy with confusing system messages and no personal touch. An interview was set then cancelled. Finally, a rejection email with a 'Do-not-reply' address. Felt like a cog in the machine, not recommended for senior Data Science leaders at Coupang.
- Could you share your approach to managing test designs?
Staff Data Scientist
After an initial chat with HR, I had a telephone screening. Both the HR person and the interviewer were nice and upfront about the job and what the role entails. They talked about the company and their plans for this position.
- Can you explain your approach to determining sample size?
- What statistical tests have you used for A/B testing?
Data Scientist
It was a terrible recruiting process, with absolutely no transparency. I felt misled. After submitting my resume, I was immediately scheduled for a technical round. It would have been great to at least have a 15-minute HR chat to ask about the role, team, company, and the rest of the interview process. For the technical round, I didn't know who I'd be speaking with and was told it would be a coding challenge. On the day, they were 10 minutes late. The video call had issues, and the interview wasn't a coding challenge at all; it was mainly a DS/ML case study. It was really misleading.
- How can we reduce the likelihood of a type 1 error in hypothesis testing?
- Given that all IDs are in table_2 but table_1 is missing some, how would you write a SQL query to identify those missing IDs?
- Using only table1, how can we find all missing IDs, assuming the IDs form a complete sequence from 10001 to 11000 without any duplicates?
