Government jobs require a certain level of hoop jumping and this was no exception. Started off with a super long application, including checking your credentials, then you get ranked, then you get told what your rank is, then depending on your rank and how many people rank higher than you, you might get called in for an interview. I got called in and it was basically the exact same questions on the application, just asked in person. I was surprised at how low-tech the whole thing seemed to be. Sent thank you notes to everyone, then silence. Followed up a few times and kept on being told "no decision yet", but not an outright no. I waited quite a while to learn that I wasn't chosen like well over a month later.

It was a pretty long interview process. The first two interviews were done remotely, and the third one was in person. I got a decent understanding of the company culture throughout the interviews. I wish there had been more of an introduction to the people on the panel and more details about the specific responsibilities of the role.

I interviewed with a panel of 3 people. The manager in charge of family services Ventura county was very abrasive. They skipped the usual "tell me about yourself" question and instead read from a Microsoft Word document, asking questions that I also had to read along with. It didn't feel very genuine or welcoming.

So first, application period and then an announcement for a written exam, you gotta self-schedule online for that, it's first-come first-served. Then there's a deadline to book your exam spot. After that, the written exams are at the main office. Exam scores get sent out, and if you pass, you'll get an invite to set up an interview appointment. The interview itself is with a 3-person panel, they'll ask you predetermined questions in order and take lots of notes. You get to ask them questions at the end. After that, conditional job offers are made and you submit a background check packet. Then you get the background check results (if you wanted them), do a physical, and get your employee photo taken. The anticipated start date is quite a bit later.
