I had a 60-minute pre-employment screening test. Then I met with the branch manager, who talked about the position and mentioned that it's not a role for everyone. To help me figure out if this career path was a good fit, they gave me an assignment to call people I know and ask them to fill out a questionnaire. I decided it wasn't the right fit for me.

Behavioral Presentation

Countrywide reached out to me through my resume on careerbuilder.com. They initially pitched it as 'financial services,' but during the one-on-one, I learned it's mainly life and health insurance sales. You have to sit through a company sales pitch about how great Country Financial is. Then, you find out there are upfront costs for insurance and securities classes, testing, and licensing fees, totaling around $1500. After you get licensed, they might offer you a job, and then the company says they'll cover half those costs. They'll show you pictures of vacations and talk about how much money you can make ($60K-$100K first year). More red flags: you pay for leads and advertising (they'll split costs). The recruiter insists on meeting your wife, saying spousal support is key. The final clue this is an MLM is they want names, addresses, and phone numbers of 200 people you know. Basically, it's an MLM that makes money by bringing people in to market to their family and friends, and expects the employee to pay half the business startup costs.

I applied online. I had an interview with HR and then an interview with my supervisor, which included side-by-side interviews with the team. It took them more than two weeks to get back to me about whether I got the job.
