First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Counterpart International.
Proposal Coordinator
The interview process was fast but thorough. It started with a recruiter phone screen where the recruiter was knowledgeable about the development sector. Then, there was an hour-long meeting with the team to discuss how your background aligns with the role's requirements. The final step was a one-on-one with a leader on the team to assess your alignment with Counterpart's mission and culture.
- How would you handle a request for a live proposal while you are on PTO?
Business Development Associate
So I had this recruiter call first, then a written test. After that, I interviewed with the dev team. They said I was good to go for a second interview with management, and I had to prepare a 15-minute presentation on a made-up project. They were supposed to call me the next week to schedule it, but they never did. I ended up emailing everyone I had contact with (three people by then) a few weeks later, and still no response. Super unprofessional and rude.
- Could you tell me about any grant applications you've been involved with?
Director
Due to a change in executive leadership, I went through two distinct interview stages with two different hiring managers. The HR department was unresponsive, so I ended up initiating contact with the hiring managers directly to arrange all my interviews. One of the hiring managers left the company during the process, which explains the two-stage, multi-month interview timeline. With these transitions, it felt like the organization wasn't quite sure what they were looking for in this role.
- Can you share your experience?
Intern
I was offered online interviews on a Friday or Saturday night, which was strange. Mine was scheduled for Saturday at 7:30 pm. It turned out to be a voice call, which was inconvenient. The interviewer asked to postpone until 8:30 pm. At 8:30 pm, the interview was unprofessional. She was outside on her patio/balcony, it was loud, and she mentioned being out with her husband earlier. She asked if I had questions. I asked about the next steps, but she just said it was time for my questions. I asked again about what to expect regarding further communication, and she said they reach out to all applicants, interviews finish early next week, so I should hear back late next week or the week after. I then asked for advice for newcomers, and she just mentioned bad traffic. After the interview, I sent a thank you note and waited over a month for a response. I followed up twice with no reply. I would have rejected any offer due to the unprofessionalism.
- Can you introduce yourself? Why do you feel you are a good fit for this position?
- Tell me about yourself and why you are qualified for the job.
