Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at COS.
Sales Assistant
I applied online and a couple of weeks later I got a call inviting me to an assessment day. At the assessment day there were 5 other candidates. First, we had an ice breaker where we had to draw 3 things that described ourselves and why we wanted to work for COS. Second, we were given a situation where we had to prioritize tasks individually and then discuss it as a group to come to an agreement. It's really common sense, just make sure you read the sheet properly; if you've already worked in retail, it'll be easy for you. Third, we had a group styling exercise where we had to design a shop window for Spring/Summer. Just make sure you understand the brand aesthetic, look at a current store front, and see how they style garments on the website. Finally, I had a one-on-one interview with the store manager which felt more conversational, with basic questions about my plans, long-term/short-term goals, holidays, etc. All in all, it was pretty relaxed and fun. Just make sure you really understand the brand and do your research.
- Tell me about current fashion trends.
- How would your colleagues describe you?
- Can you share an instance where you went above and beyond for a customer?
Sales Assistant
Applied through the website, sent in my CV and personal details, which was really easy. Then had a telephone interview where they asked me questions about style and customer service, stuff like that. After that, there was a group interview with 8 people. We did an ice breaker and a styling challenge, and they asked questions about what I'd do in certain situations.
- Can you draw the person next to you?
- Can you draw the person sitting to your left?
- Draw a picture of the person sitting on your left.
Sales Assistant
So first you fill out an online form, it had a question and your resume. Then, a quick phone call asking why COS. After that, we had a group interview with 6 of us. We started with an icebreaker: 2 truths and a lie. Then came the 'assessment' part where they paired us up to style an outfit for a specific style (minimalist, bohemian, eclectic, innovative). Following that, we were split into two groups of 3 to prioritize a set of tasks. The last step was a one-on-one with the manager.
- Tell me about a time you had to speak up about something.
- Can you share an experience where you received constructive criticism and how you handled it?
- Which do you prefer, working in a slow or fast-paced setting?
