First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at COS.
Visual Merchandiser
Applied online and HR contacted me two weeks later about a group interview, giving me a date to pick. Only one date was available, and when I asked about other options, they said the date had changed. I interviewed with the visual manager and store manager along with 2-3 other people. It was more task-based than question-based. First, we had to go around the store and identify three successful and three unsuccessful visual changes. Then, we had to merchandise a store area using the company booklet. Finally, we were given a random customer profile and asked to style it, explaining our choices. They said they would let me know the results, but I'm still waiting. Overall, it felt a bit disorganized with many tasks for a visual role, though the visual manager gave great constructive feedback.
- Are you available to work shifts from Monday to Friday starting at 6/7 am until 4 pm, with some closing shifts and weekend shifts included?
Visual Merchandiser
applied via indeed.com spoke with a nice recruitment person back and forth for a couple of weeks who organised me an interview with manager of store I was going for interviewed with manager of store and regional manager, regional manager made me feel very at ease, some questions and a practical which was easy if you've done visual before although recruitment person told me to make a mood board of current trends/cos/customers which i spent hours doing (and wasted a load of printer ink and paper) and they didn't even ask to see it at the interview?
- Can you walk us through your CV?
- What are your current responsibilities?
- Can you give an example of a time your visual merchandising efforts made a significant impact?
Visual Merchandiser
The interview process included questions about how I could personally improve the store and what I'd bring to the team, my own work ethic, and how I'd handle certain scenarios or have handled them before. For anyone with prior experience in this field, it should be pretty straightforward. I was given a few challenges, like a SWOT analysis, making a mock plan for the week, and a mannequin styling challenge based on the weekly figures. Just be yourself.
- Can you share an instance where you deviated from management guidelines in a visual merchandising context? Explain your reasoning and the final result.
- Tell me about a stressful situation you encountered and how you managed to overcome it.
