It was a really nice interview with some very knowledgeable people. They didn't ask anything too difficult and were really open to feedback. I interviewed with a few different people and got a good sense of the work-life balance and how I could grow with the company.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

I thought this could be a great role, but I noticed some concerning things during the interviews. I made it all the way to the final round and then got an email saying the team decided not to move forward. It felt really disrespectful considering I spent hours preparing an assignment and had multiple interviews over about a month. The interviewer also missed the first two scheduled interviews. For the final interview assignment, one of the panelists asked me to do an extra, on-the-spot task that seemed to come out of nowhere. Assignments should be given via email with clear instructions, not described verbally when the person asking isn't even sure how to explain it. After I submitted the assignment, I sent two emails to confirm receipt, but got no response. One of the initial problems was that the company never really explained what Corra actually does, even though their recruiter reached out to me. They only described what they were looking for. I've never been in an interview where the company didn't detail their services. I had to figure out what Corra does on my own. Another issue was that all the interviews were phone calls until the final presentation, which is strange in 2023. Lastly, the lack of diversity was really concerning, with all the staff being either white or Indian, apparently due to technical staff in India. As a person of color, this made me uncomfortable. Even though I didn't get the job, I don't think it would have been a good fit anyway, as they seem unsure about what they want.

HR contacted me after applying, which was good. There was some back and forth scheduling calls and interviews, which felt a bit disorganized. The first call was okay but short, so I suggested another since we hadn't discussed much. Instead, I was offered a 2-hour interview with a mock pitch, which would have taken hours to prepare. I don't work for free, so I wasn't going to spend hours proving low risk for them with no return. I prefer a phone call followed by an in-person interview no longer than an hour. Happy to answer more questions, but it's not a lifetime appointment. I think companies should be decisive. The first month is the real interview. In this job market, this company doesn't seem to grasp that, so I passed for other offers from companies that respect my time.

I spoke with the recruiter who reached out to me. She said I had all the qualifications and more. We exchanged emails for two weeks while waiting for the VP to get back from vacation. I went to meet the VP in person, but most of the company was working remotely. The VP wasn't there, and the receptionist had no idea about my meeting. The interview was laid-back and conversational. They didn't ask many questions and didn't cover my entire work history. It lasted less than an hour, which seemed short for a Director-level position with the hiring manager. I received a standard rejection email a few days later, which felt impersonal considering they recruited me and we had been in contact for weeks. The whole experience reflected poorly on what it might be like to work there.
