First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cornerstone Building Brands.
Strategy Intern
The interview process included an initial phone screen with HR where we talked in depth about my previous experience, background, and resume. They wanted to see if I was a good fit for the role and answered my questions. It was a very friendly and supportive conversation. Round 1 was with the manager, one member of the team. Round 2 was with the rest of the team.
- Can you tell me about your background and experience?
- Are you willing to relocate for this position?
Talent Management Partner
I talked to a recruiter at Cornerstone Building Brands in June about a job. She said I'd hear back in a week, but I didn't. I had to follow up and got a vague response that the team was 'still reviewing applications.' Then, months passed with no word until I got an automated rejection email 2.5 months later. This is unacceptable given my experience building and leading TA functions. Candidates deserve timely, respectful updates, not silence followed by automated rejections. A bad candidate experience hurts the company brand, especially now.

Logistics Manager
So there were 4 stages in total. First HR Screening Interview, then a chat with the Hiring Manager. After that, I had a panel interview with 4 Directors. The last round was supposed to be with the VP, but it got called off last minute. Overall the experience was good, interviewing with smart people I wanted to work with, but the cancellation of the final stage after two months of interviewing wasn't professional. An email from someone I didn't know said they were in charge and the role was cancelled. It was a bummer.

Sales Manager
The process started with an automated message to set up an interview with the in-house recruiter. However, the recruiter didn't call at the scheduled time. About a week later, the recruiter contacted me asking if I could talk in two hours, which I agreed to. The actual phone screen lasted about 15 minutes; the first 10 minutes were spent asking questions easily found on my resume, and the remaining 5 minutes I was put on hold because the recruiter was taking another call. At the end, I was informed they were very close to selecting another candidate but would be in touch if that didn't work out. This whole experience felt unprofessional, especially since a timely call could have given me a fair chance.
- Can you tell me about your total years of sales experience?
- How many years of experience do you have specifically in building materials sales?
- Could you share some information about your background that might be evident from reviewing my resume?
