First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cornell Cooperative Extension.
Communications Coordinator
The application process was disorganized and lacked communication. I applied the same day the job was posted, but I didn't hear back for 5 weeks, despite following up three times via email. I was confused because my resume seemed like a good fit. When they finally offered me an initial Zoom interview, I was only given one day's notice. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it the next day due to prior commitments and asked if we could reschedule for 2-3 days later. They declined, and I ended up not interviewing for the position. This experience reflects poorly on CCE; they should be more flexible and provide more advance notice for interviews.
- Could you let me know your availability for an interview tomorrow?
Extension Educator
longest, most drawn-out interview process ever! no one who actually needs a job (income) would tolerate an interview spanning seven months. multiple steps, and clients vote on candidates. these guys fumbled through the process, but that's extension in a nutshell
- Tell me about your past interactions with CCE.
Summer Camp Counselor
It was friendly. They asked me "what if" questions and about my experience with children. I was explained the role and what it involved, also what to expect on a typical day and the benefits that would come from the job.
- What would you do if a child gets homesick?
Community Garden Coordinator
they got back to me pretty fast after I applied and we emailed a bit to set things up. I chatted with a recruiter and an HR person on Zoom. Didn't get the job in the end, but they were good with email communication.
- What did your previous employer say were your strengths and weaknesses?
