FA Department
I applied online and it took about 3 weeks. First, I had a phone screen with a recruiter where we talked about my background and the role. Then, I had a technical screen with the hiring manager, who discussed expectations and goals for the role over the next 6-12 months. Finally, there was a panel interview with 3 team members from different departments, focusing on teamwork and cross-functional skills. Overall, it was a great experience. What impressed me was the process and the people; they seemed more mature than expected for their size. The team has high expectations but also values empathy.
- Tell me about a challenging experience with a cross-functional team and how you resolved it.

- In a situation where you couldn't meet a difficult deadline, how did you handle the failure and what lessons did you take away?
Software Engineer
HR got in touch on LinkedIn. We set up the first call where we discussed basic company info and I got to see a demo of their really cool product. Next, I met with the Director of Engineering, which was also a great experience. We talked about my background, the role, and some company vision and background. This chat gave me a good feel for the organization and their plans. Then came the virtual onsite. I met the team I'd be working with – a data scientist, lead engineers, the Head of Product (who's also a founder), and I spoke with the Director of Engineering again for behavioral questions. I got an offer, but turned it down for personal reasons. The whole interview process was really well done, and I genuinely enjoyed talking to everyone about the company. They were all super welcoming and happy to share their experiences and vision, which made me feel really good about the company's future and the organizational culture.

Product Manager
The interview experience with Convex was amazing. It lasted about 4 weeks and included: A 30-minute intro call and demo with the recruiter, a 1-hour interview with the Hiring Manager (who was the CPO/Co-founder in my case), and a 4-hour virtual onsite with the GPM, CPO, Head of Design, Engineering Manager, and Head of Marketing. I also got to have extra chats with the COO and other product team members after the main onsite. They were super helpful in setting those up. I felt I had all the info I needed to decide afterwards. The whole thing was really organized and professional, but also felt personal. It's clear they really care about hiring the right people.
- Can you walk me through a past product feature or launch you worked on?
- How do you approach product discovery, and what's your product strategy?
- Describe how you frame and solve problems.
Data Engineer
interviews were pretty easy/average. got an offer but they took it back bc of a headcount mistake. the recruitment process was smooth and the recruiter was great, but ultimately they had to own someone else's error. hope they treat their employees better than candidates. maybe i dodged a bullet. after interviews i asked to chat with someone in finance about FP+A stuff to get the business better. they connected me with a founder who avoided finance questions and said there was no finance team. that made me question the biz's health. hoping Convex isnt just another startup chasing growth without a real business plan or profit potential, cause the product seems okay. they seem to have hired smart people, just maybe not for headcount planning.
- Tell me about how you align with the product.
- How do you handle EQ-focused workplace situations?
- Write SQL queries involving groupby and aggregation.
