First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Contra Costa Health Services.
Community Health Worker
The interview involved the applicant recording their answers to questions and submitting the recording after each response within a set time limit. There was also an instructional video and a practice session. Applicants were allowed two attempts to record each response.
- Can you tell me about a complex project you worked on? What was your part in it, what was the goal, and what was the result?
Registered Nurse
Had a video interview with two people that lasted about thirty minutes. It included scenario-based questions that weren't too difficult. The interviewers were super friendly and nice, and made me feel really comfortable. Overall, it was a very positive experience.
- Could you tell me a bit about yourself?
Authorization Representative
The interview felt rushed, I was given a tour, and they said they'd get back to me by the end of the week. They didn't seem very interested in my qualifications or why I'd be a good fit, making me feel like I was pushing information onto them. I left confused about my standing because they mentioned that while my number came up, there was also an internal candidate who wanted to return to the department. Fast forward, I was offered the job, completed the fingerprinting, and got HR clearance to start, with my manager asked to provide my start date. However, the offer was rescinded because they claimed they couldn't verify my employment in under two business days. My references confirmed they were never contacted, and given my experience with large corporations, it's unlikely they couldn't verify my employment if they had tried. I even went to HR to offer further documentation, but they said it wasn't necessary. The rescinded offer letter was dated the same day. I wrote to the CEO and HR Director explaining the situation and asking why the process failed, but received no response. Notably, I had already given my two-week notice to my current job after receiving HR clearance and had an appointment for new hire paperwork because the manager had stressed how urgently they needed me. I had also signed the offer letter. About a month later, I received an email to interview for the exact same position I had already gone through the hiring process for, but this time it was for a temporary role, which I never applied for. It felt like something shady was going on, which was disappointing as I was excited about starting my career with the County. I did everything I was supposed to do, so take caution.
- What was your understanding of the role?
COVID 19 Supervisor
I initially applied for this job via Indeed.com and got a bunch of emails from Indeed.org. It seemed like I had way more experience than they wanted. The interview process had three parts. First, there was an online screening to check if I had the right skills. Then, they sent me 8 questions to answer and upload online, which was late on Friday before Memorial Day weekend and due Monday. That felt a little unprofessional considering the holiday and the pandemic. After that, I had an online Zoom interview with two public health nurses, one of whom I'd worked with before. It went okay, but we lost power twice during the interview because of rolling blackouts and local construction. The interviewers suggested I should have used my phone as a backup for Zoom, but I have a visual impairment and need a bigger screen, so that was disappointing.
- Can you describe a challenging supervisory situation you handled, detailing how you used cultural competency and addressed linguistic limitations among employees to improve productivity?
- Could you elaborate on your reasons for not owning a car in San Francisco or California?
